How is alcohol-free beer made?

There are several ways to produce low-alcohol beer (that still contains a little bit of alcohol) and completely alcohol-free beer. Some brewers do this by using special yeast and aborting the brewing process before the yeast cells turn into alcohol. Other brewers choose to distill the beer after brewing and remove the alcohol by heating. Because not only the alcohol but also a large part of the aromas are lost during heating, they are often added again after distillation. It is also possible to filter the alcohol from the beer during the brewing process, but this is relatively expensive to do. This method is therefore less often used.

From beer without alcohol to low-alcohol beer

In the Netherlands, beer can be called alcohol-free (or malt beer) if it does not contain more than 0.1% alcohol. Beer that contains between 0.1% and 1.2% alcohol is called low-alcohol beer in our country. There are also low alcoholic beers, which contain a maximum of 4% alcohol. At our webshop, however, we only sell beers with an alcohol content of up to 0.5%.
