Darling Cellars

Darling Cellars is located on the cool west coast of South Africa, approximately 1 hour's drive from Cape Town and 15 km from the coastline. In 1996 a new era began for the Darling region with the establishment of the private cellar Darling Cellars (Pty) Limited. With its unique terroir and the area's demarcation as Wine of Origin Darling in 2003, the focus is on producing wines that are regional and varietal in character. On approximately 1,300 hectares, about 20 shareholders produce an average of 6 to 8 tonnes of grapes per hectare.

The cool and temperate climate of the west coast leads to a variety of micro- and mesoclimates which, together with the different soil types, result in unique grapes that are accompanied into even more unique wines. The winery and cellar house some of the most modern and advanced winemaking equipment in the industry today. The ongoing replanting of vineyards with noble cultivars, a new system for unloading grapes, a modern bottling line, new presses and a maturation cellar all contribute to the advancements in contemporary winemaking at Darling Cellars.

Darling Cellars' range of de-alcoholised wines also includes low-calorie and vegan alcohol-free wines, which are different from other non-alcoholic 'wine alternatives'. They are produced like any other 'normal' wine and then the alcohol is extracted using smart technology that best preserves the wine's origin. Low-alcohol wine should still reflect the grape, vineyard and terroir.
